U.S. M4A1 Sherman brings an iconic American World War II tank to Project Zomboid. This armored vehicle features animated tracks, moving hatches, a rotating turret and two functional weapons.
The Sherman is designed for more than transportation. Its main cannon fires armor-piercing and high-explosive ammunition, while a coaxial machine gun provides additional firepower against zombies.
The addon supports Build 42.20, including single-player and multiplayer, and requires Military Tool Kit.
Tank Features
The vehicle includes several visual and mechanical improvements.
- Animated tracks - moving tracks that accompany vehicle movement.
- Animated hatches and doors - movable components that add detail to the exterior.
- Armored hull - heavy protection for the vehicle body.
- Rotating turret - an animated gun mount with directional aiming.
- Functional weapons - a 76mm cannon and coaxial machine gun.
- Historical appearance - military styling inspired by American WWII equipment.
These systems make the Sherman a distinctive alternative to ordinary cars and trucks.
Weapons and Ammunition
| Weapon | Ammunition | Function |
|---|---|---|
| 76mm M1 Cannon | 76mm APFSDS | Armor-piercing projectiles |
| 76mm M1 Cannon | 76mm HE | Explosive area damage |
| .30 Cal M1919 | 7.62x63mm | Coaxial machine gun |
Armor-Piercing Rounds
The 76mm APFSDS projectile can penetrate walls, vehicles and multiple targets.
Each penetration reduces the projectile's remaining energy, affecting its ability to pass through additional obstacles.
High-Explosive Rounds
HE shells detonate on impact and inflict substantial damage over an area.
Use explosive ammunition carefully, especially near buildings, vehicles or other valuable equipment.
Weapons consume real ammunition rather than providing unlimited firing. Ammunition loot follows proportions based on the game's standard ammunition distribution.
Killing zombies with the tank's weapons also awards experience.
How the Aiming System Works
The turret uses two separate aiming indicators:
- Circle - shows the mouse cursor's target position.
- Triangle - indicates where the cannon is actually pointing.
The weapon can fire before the indicators align, but the projectile follows the turret's direction, not the cursor.
For accurate shots, allow the gun to rotate toward the desired target before firing.
The coaxial machine gun uses Spacebar by default. Its control can be reassigned through the in-game Mods settings.
Drive and Shoot Variant
A separate configuration allows the driver to operate the turret and coaxial weapon without switching to another vehicle position.
To use it, activate:
U.S. M4A1 Sherman Drive and Shoot by Papa_Chad
This version also adjusts weapon reloading to accommodate the alternative control arrangement.
Do not enable the standard and Drive and Shoot variants simultaneously. The author recommends choosing only one.
