Military Tool Kit provides the core systems for realistic military vehicles in Project Zomboid. Features animated tank tracks, armored bodies, rotating turrets, cross-drive transmissions, ammunition storage and advanced projectile ballistics. Supports Build 42 single-player, with multiplayer functionality still in development and partial Build 41 compatibility.
Contents
Military Tool Kit is a framework for Project Zomboid that provides the scripts, equipment and technical systems required by military vehicle mods. It enables features such as animated tank tracks, functional turrets, armored hulls and specialized transmissions.
Unlike a standalone vehicle pack, this addon primarily supplies shared functionality for compatible modifications. It does not automatically introduce military vehicles into the world.
The framework supports Build 42 single-player, while multiplayer integration remains under active development. Build 41 has partial compatibility.
Military Vehicle Systems
The toolkit introduces several features designed for armored and tracked vehicles.
| Feature | Description |
|---|---|
| Animated Tracks | Moving tracks for compatible vehicles |
| Animated Doors | Vehicle doors with animation support |
| Animated Addons | Animated equipment and additional vehicle components |
| Armored Body | Support for armored vehicle hulls |
| Cross-Drive Transmission | Allows certain vehicles to turn around their own axis while stationary |
| Ammunition Storage | Storage systems for vehicle ammunition |
| Vehicle Turrets | Weapon turrets with independent projectile calculations |
These systems are used by other compatible military vehicle mods rather than providing a complete fleet on their own.
Cross-Drive Transmission
Some tracked vehicles can rotate while remaining in the same position.
This capability is particularly useful for heavy armored equipment that needs to change direction without driving forward or backward.
Availability depends on the vehicle's implementation.
Turrets and Advanced Ballistics
One of the most technically significant components is the independent ballistic simulation for mounted weapons.
Instead of relying entirely on Project Zomboid's standard combat calculations, the turret system processes each projectile separately.
The simulation accounts for:
- Individual projectile behavior.
- Projectile energy.
- Damage potential.
- Penetration through characters and other targets.
- Interactions with vehicles and walls.
This allows compatible weapons to use mechanics developed specifically for heavy military armament.
Important: Vehicle turrets are not implemented for Build 41.
Supported Heavy Weapons
The framework provides support for several machine guns and cannons, each using specific ammunition.
| Weapon | Supported Ammunition |
|---|---|
| Browning M2HB | 12.7x99mm (.50 BMG) |
| M61 Vulcan Cannon | 20mm Round, 20mm HE Round |
| 76mm Gun M32 | 76mm Armor Piercing, 76mm High Explosive |
| M1919A4 Coaxial Machine Gun | 7.62mm NATO Round |
Ammunition Requirements
The Browning M2HB uses .50 BMG ammunition that must be loaded into a compatible 12.7x99mm (.50 BMG) Ammo Box.
The M61 Vulcan supports standard 20mm projectiles and high-explosive variants.
For the 76mm M32 cannon, both armor-piercing and high-explosive rounds are supported.
The coaxial M1919A4 uses 7.62mm NATO ammunition.
These are supported weapon and ammunition systems, not a guarantee that every compatible vehicle carries all of them.
Shared Items and Components
Military Tool Kit also provides common vehicle parts, tools and other resources used by the author's related projects.
These items do not spawn automatically.
They become available through the compatible vehicle mods that actually use them.
This keeps the framework from adding unnecessary equipment to a world where the corresponding vehicles are not installed.
Build Compatibility and Multiplayer Status
| Game Version | Status |
|---|---|
| Build 42 Single-player | Supported |
| Build 42 Multiplayer | Partially functional, work in progress |
| Build 41 Single-player | Partially compatible |
| Build 41 Multiplayer | Partially compatible |
| Build 41 Vehicle Turrets | Not implemented |
The author has made optimization changes and removed certain aesthetic details to improve performance.
However, Build 42 multiplayer still has known synchronization problems and other bugs.
Some systems may therefore behave differently between single-player and multiplayer sessions.
The framework is actively being developed, and stable behavior across every compatible vehicle has not yet been guaranteed.
Installation and Usage
Military Tool Kit is intended to be installed as a dependency alongside compatible military vehicle modifications.
- Subscribe to the framework in Steam Workshop.
- Install the military vehicle mods that require it.
- Enable the necessary components in your game's mod list.
- Start your selected world.
The additional vehicles and their equipment depend on the individual addons you install.
Since this is primarily a technical framework, it is most useful for players building a military vehicle collection rather than those looking for a standalone content pack.
Military Tool Kit expands what vehicle developers can implement in Project Zomboid, providing the foundation for tracked movement, armored construction and sophisticated mounted weapons while preserving a modular approach to additional military content.
