IsoRimZ is a RimWorld mod that introduces multi-level construction, vertical combat, and expanded terrain elevation. Designed as an addon for IsoRim Waylith, it allows players to build multi-story colonies, connect floors with stairs and elevators, explore towering mountains, and construct gravships with multiple decks.

Instead of being restricted to a single horizontal level, colonists can now live, work, and fight at different heights. The modification also expands combat mechanics, allowing enemies to attack from above or below and introducing new challenges involving destructible floors and vertical movement.

Multi-Level Construction and Buildings

The main feature of IsoRimZ is the ability to construct buildings with multiple floors.

Players can create upper levels using different construction materials and organize their settlements vertically.

Main building features include:

  • Multiple floors: Construct additional levels using wood, stone, or metal.
  • Functional upper levels: Colonists can live, work, and fight on different floors.
  • Customizable world generation: Choose the number of available floors when creating a new world.
  • Vertical settlements: Expand colonies upward instead of relying entirely on horizontal construction.

This system introduces new possibilities for colony layouts, allowing players to create taller buildings and use available space differently.

Stairs, Ladders and Elevators

IsoRimZ adds several ways for characters to move between floors.

Available transportation options:

  • Stairs connecting different levels.
  • Ladders for vertical movement.
  • Elevators providing additional access between floors.

Players can switch between floors by holding Shift and scrolling the mouse wheel.

These mechanics allow colonists to navigate multi-story buildings and access different areas of the settlement.

Vertical Combat and Dangerous Raids

IsoRimZ expands RimWorld's combat system with battles that take place across multiple floors.

Enemies can approach colonies using new vertical movement options, while defensive structures must account for threats from different elevations.

Combat features include:

  • Vertical firefights: Colonists can shoot upward and downward between floors.
  • Siege ladders: Raiders can climb into elevated positions.
  • Mechanoid lifts: Mechanoids can use lifts to reach other levels.
  • Underground attacks: Enemies can mine upward through mountains.
  • Destructible floors: Explosions can damage, crack, or collapse floors.
  • Arcing projectiles: Mortars and war bows can fire over walls.
  • Locust attacks: Locusts can leap upward to attack targets.

These changes make vertical positioning an important consideration when designing defenses and preparing for raids.

Tall Mountains and Multi-Level Bases

The modification also expands terrain generation by introducing mountains that rise above ground level.

Players can establish settlements on top of mountains or construct bases inside them across several floors.

This provides additional possibilities for building elevated fortifications, mountain settlements, and underground-style complexes with multiple connected levels.

Multi-Deck Gravships

IsoRimZ supports gravships with multiple decks, allowing spacecraft to use the same vertical construction system.

Multi-level gravships can take off and land, making it possible to create spacecraft with several functional floors.

Requirements and Compatibility

IsoRimZ requires IsoRim Waylith and must be loaded after it.

Important compatibility details:

  • IsoRim Waylith: Required dependency.
  • Load order: Place IsoRimZ after IsoRim Waylith.
  • New worlds: Required to generate upper floors.
  • Existing saves: Saves created without IsoRimZ will not gain upper floors.
  • Combat Extended: Not supported for vertical combat. Cross-floor combat is disabled when using CE.
  • Removing the mod: Once a save has used IsoRimZ, removing the mod will break that save.

Additional packs are available for IsoRim Waylith, including VFE Medieval 2 Pack and Giddy-Up Pack.

For mod developers, IsoRimZ also provides a public API.
