Project Viewpoint QOL — Smoother Controls for First-Person Survival

Project Viewpoint QOL reduces the friction of playing Project Zomboid through Viewpoint. It connects mouse control, looting, equipment selection, and camera settings so you can spend less time managing windows and more time exploring.

The add-on is designed for Build 42 and requires Project Viewpoint 0.1.6.1 specifically. Other Viewpoint versions cause it to disable itself with an on-screen notice.

Easier inventory and mouse control

The cursor unlocks when you open supported interfaces, including inventory, health, maps, radios, and appliances. Closing them returns control to camera movement.

You can also return to mouse-look while leaving inventory and container windows open, using Viewpoint’s cursor key or an optional shortcut.

Hold Shift and scroll to cycle through hotbar weapons and tools, including while sprinting.

Contextual actions while looting

The default G key performs an action appropriate to the selected item. Depending on the item and circumstances, it can:

  • equip weapons or clothing;
  • wear or carry bags;
  • read books and magazines;
  • eat, drink, take medicine, or smoke;
  • apply supported medical treatment;
  • unpack ammunition and load carried magazines or shotguns.

Food and drink offer portion selection. Items with multiple possible equipment locations open a placement chooser.

Press V to choose whether collected items go into your inventory or an equipped bag. Press B over an ingredient to open crafting recipes that use it.

Handle several containers at once

Tap [ to browse nearby containers within the normal loot radius, grouped by container. Tap again to return to the aimed container.

Holding the same key activates Store All, transferring inventory contents into the open or targeted container while protecting favourites, keys, equipped items, and hotbar equipment.

Optional protection can also exclude favourites and keys from Loot All. The crosshair loot menu can be toggled with K.

Movement and camera conveniences

Auto-walk is available through ' or Right Alt + Forward. Mouse-look steers your direction; movement input or taking damage cancels it.

Additional options include automatic opening of unlocked doors while jogging or sprinting, fast-forward support during auto-walk, and third-person strafing.

Camera controls provide smooth third-person distance adjustment with the wheel and separate FOV adjustment using Ctrl + Wheel. Optional settings reduce camera float or disable selected reaction effects.

All settings are synchronised between Delete → QOL and Options → Mods → Project Viewpoint QOL.

Requirements and multiplayer

Load the required mods in this order:

  1. ZombieBuddy
  2. Project Viewpoint 0.1.6.1
  3. Project Viewpoint QOL

Complete ZombieBuddy’s initial setup and approve the QOL Java module when prompted. Updates may require renewed approval.

The add-on runs on each client, but hosted and dedicated servers must include all three mods in their configuration. Add these entries to the existing server lists:

ini
Mods=ZombieBuddy;Viewpoint;ProjectViewpointQOL
WorkshopItems=3619862853;3809306528;3811256204

The server’s load order takes priority over local ordering.

Compatibility is provided for Viewpoint Advanced Movement 1.3.3+ and Neat Crafting. If features stop working, check console.txt for ProjectViewpointQOL messages about the Java bridge or Viewpoint version.
