Project Parkour adds a 10-level Parkour skill, free jumping, directional dodges, wall running, window dives and advanced vaulting animations to Project Zomboid Build 42.20. Unlock new moves through progression, jump across rooftops and overcome obstacles while managing stamina. Single-player supported; multiplayer has synchronization issues.
Contents
Project Parkour transforms movement in Project Zomboid by introducing a dedicated Parkour skill, new traversal mechanics and an extensive collection of animations.
Survivors can learn to jump over obstacles, dive through windows, dodge attacks, perform acrobatic vaults and climb onto rooftops. However, these abilities are not available immediately. Advanced techniques must be unlocked through experience, while stamina, injuries and environmental conditions affect their use.
The modification is designed for Project Zomboid Build 42.20, with single-player support and experimental multiplayer functionality.
New Parkour Mechanics
The addon introduces several ways to move through the environment.
- Free Jump - Jump over furniture, low fences, rocks, small stationary vehicles and suitable rooftop gaps.
- Window Dive - Sprint through windows using special diving animations.
- Directional Dodge - Evade in different directions using a dedicated control.
- Wall Run Up - Run vertically along a wall and climb onto an accessible roof one level above.
- Advanced Vaulting - Perform different animations when walking, running or sprinting.
- Landing and Recovery - Use rolls and improved recovery animations after falls.
Vaulting animations are not purely cosmetic. Different movements have their own speed and travel distance.
Free Jump Distance
Jumping distance depends on the character's current movement.
| Movement | Maximum Jump Distance |
|---|---|
| Standing | 2 tiles |
| Running | 3 tiles |
| Sprinting | 4 tiles |
Jumps require a valid route and a safe landing location.
Low obstacles and certain gaps can be crossed, but tall fences, full walls, trucks and oversized objects remain impassable through normal Free Jump.
Parkour Skill and Progression
The modification adds a 10-level Parkour skill.
Experience is earned through movement rather than traditional crafting or combat.
Activities that provide XP include climbing fences, traversing windows, jumping, running up walls and sprinting.
Every 30 tiles traveled while sprinting awards 5 XP.
An anti-farming system reduces experience gained from repeatedly using the same obstacle, encouraging players to explore different routes.
Unlockable Abilities
| Level | Unlocked Abilities |
|---|---|
| 1 | Basic vaults, window traversal and fall recovery |
| 2 | Free Jump, landing rolls, Dash Vault and Corkscrew Vault |
| 3 | Four-direction dodging, Dive Roll and Cat Vault |
| 4 | Sprint window vaulting, advanced fence animations and Webster Vault |
| 5 | Front Flip, Backflip Vault and advanced dodge animations |
| 6 | Armada Kick - enhanced shove that deals damage |
| 7 | Additional stamina efficiency |
| 8 | Wall Run Up and further endurance improvements |
| 9-10 | Maximum stamina efficiency for jumps, dodges and wall running |
Higher levels primarily improve endurance efficiency rather than introducing large numbers of additional moves.
Directional Dodging
Dodging works differently depending on whether the character is aiming.
Outside combat stance, the survivor dodges in the direction they are facing.
While aiming, movement keys determine the dodge direction:
- Forward.
- Backward.
- Left.
- Right.
Each direction uses its own animations.
Important: Dodges do not grant invulnerability frames. Characters can still be hit or bitten during evasive movements.
Controls and Customization
Three additional actions are available:
- Dodge.
- Forward Jump.
- Climb onto Roof.
These controls are unassigned by default.
Configure them through:
Options > Mods > Parkour
Sandbox Settings
Individual parkour animations can be enabled or disabled.
When an animation is disabled, the game uses an alternative vanilla animation where one exists. If the original game does not support that action, no replacement animation may be available.
Players can customize the movement system to exclude specific acrobatic actions.
Stamina and Physical Limitations
Parkour requires physical effort.
Advanced movements consume endurance, while higher skill levels gradually reduce their stamina costs.
Some actions may become unavailable when the character:
- Is overloaded with equipment.
- Has insufficient endurance.
- Suffers serious injuries.
- Lacks a safe landing area.
These restrictions prevent acrobatic movement from becoming an unlimited escape mechanic.
Compatibility and Multiplayer
| Feature | Status |
|---|---|
| Build 42.20 | Supported |
| Single-player | Supported |
| Multiplayer | Core mechanics work, synchronization issues remain |
| Parkour skill | 10 levels |
| Configurable animations | Available |
| Custom key bindings | Available |
| Animation overhaul compatibility | Potential conflicts |
Other modifications that replace the same player animation sets may conflict with Project Parkour. The addon includes compatibility priorities for several common animation replacements, but this does not guarantee universal compatibility.
Some animations may also vary in quality because many were adapted to the Project Zomboid character rig.
Development Status
The developer has announced an indefinite break from modding, so future updates and fixes are not guaranteed on a specific schedule.
Additional movement mechanics and animations were planned, particularly for higher skill levels.
Project Parkour makes exploration and escaping zombies more dynamic, rewarding survivors who develop their movement abilities. With acrobatic jumps, climbing techniques and directional evasions, navigating Kentucky becomes a skill-based part of survival rather than simply running between obstacles.
