Gore Crawlers & Torn Zombies - 3D Wounds and Damaged Zombies for Project Zomboid
Gore Crawlers & Torn Zombies adds visibly damaged crawlers, three-dimensional wounds and reworked zombie skins to Project Zomboid Build 42. Designed with first-person play through Project Viewpoint in mind, it also works without it.
Five crawler variants
Crawlers can appear with five different injuries, each using movement suited to its remaining limbs:
- Torso: a body severed at the waist.
- Hip stump: one leg missing from the hip.
- Skeleton leg: one leg stripped down to exposed bone and tissue.
- Half leg: a damaged thigh with the lower leg missing.
- Both knees: both legs missing below the knees.
One-legged crawlers push themselves forward with their remaining leg. Torso crawlers have dedicated idle, turning, lunging and hit animations, with moving entrails.
Wounds with actual depth
Injuries use 3D body pieces, rather than texture changes alone. They include damaged throats, exposed collarbones and ribs, stripped forearms, torn cheeks and abdominal wounds. Left, right and alternative versions help vary their appearance.
Shotgun and axe hits can create wounds at the impact location. Running zombies over can remove one or both legs.
The mod also reworks all 32 zombie skins, adding veins, bruises, bites, dried blood, dirt and a faded appearance while preserving individual skin tones.
Settings and performance
Sandbox options control crawler frequency, wound chances, maximum wounds per zombie, visibility through clothing and vehicle-related leg loss. Individual systems can be disabled.
For a local performance adjustment, turn off Options > Mods > Show 3d wounds to hide those models only on your client.
Multiplayer and compatibility
Initial wounds and crawler variants appear consistently for all players without additional network messages. Hit-generated wounds and vehicle injuries are handled through the server and saved with the world.
- Visceral: compatible, combining its hit dismemberment with this mod’s crawlers and wounds.
- Tomb’s Player Body: compatible, though some wounds may sit slightly out of position.
- Zombie skin replacements: conflict with these textures; the last-loaded replacement takes priority.
