Lethal Stealth expands tactical movement in Project Zomboid Build 42 by introducing new combat stances, crawling mechanics and improved firearm accuracy.
Survivors can crouch for more precise shooting, lie prone for a greater aiming advantage and crawl beneath vehicles to take cover. These mechanics provide additional options for approaching dangerous situations without remaining fully exposed.
The modification supports multiplayer and controllers, with customizable controls and sandbox settings.
Tactical Stances and Aiming
The addon introduces two combat postures that affect weapon accuracy.
| Stance | Effect | Default Control |
|---|---|---|
| Crouch | Slight aiming bonus | C while aiming |
| Prone | Significant aiming bonus | U |
| Crawling | Movement while lying down | Available in prone stance |
Crouching
Crouching provides a modest improvement to aiming, making it useful when preparing to fire from a lower position.
Press C and aim to use this stance.
Prone Position
Lying on the ground offers a considerably stronger aiming bonus.
Press U or right-click the ground and select Prone.
This position can be valuable during ranged combat, but it also creates a risk: getting up takes time, potentially leaving the character vulnerable to approaching zombies.
Crawling and Vehicle Cover
The modification allows characters to crawl while lying prone.
One particularly useful interaction lets survivors move underneath vehicles.
To use it:
- Enter the prone position.
- Right-click a nearby vehicle.
- Select Pass under the vehicle.
- Crawl beneath the vehicle.
This provides an additional tactical movement option when navigating dangerous areas.
Faster Stance Transitions
Normally, entering or leaving a prone position requires time.
Lethal Stealth allows faster transitions by combining the Run/Sprint input with the action for getting up or down.
The faster movement comes at the cost of increased physical effort.
Transition speeds can also be adjusted in the sandbox settings.
Customization and Compatibility
The addon provides configurable keyboard shortcuts and multiple sandbox options.

Hunting System Integration
Compatibility is included for Snake's planned hunting system.
When that system becomes available, firing from the prone position is intended to provide an additional bonus.
The hunting system itself was not yet released in the provided description.
Older Build 42 Versions
Players using Build 42.12.x can find a separate legacy release.
For information about compatibility with other modifications, consult the official compatibility discussion.
Future Development
The developer plans further improvements to the stealth mechanics.
The existing release focuses on tactical positioning, firearm accuracy, crawling and stance transitions.
Lethal Stealth offers more ways to approach combat in Project Zomboid, rewarding careful positioning while making players consider the risks of remaining on the ground when zombies get too close.
