Bicycle Mod - Rideable Bicycles, Upgrades and Sidecars for Project Zomboid

Bicycle Mod introduces rideable bicycles to Project Zomboid, offering an alternative to walking and motor vehicles. Travel between locations, carry supplies and explore Kentucky without relying on gasoline.

The addon features custom riding animations, adjustable speed, replaceable components and sidecars for transporting cargo or live animals. Cycling also takes your character's health and injuries into account.

Supports Project Zomboid Build 42.20 and newer, including multiplayer. A separate version is available for Build 41.

How to Ride a Bicycle

Bicycles can be found in garages, storage units, sporting goods stores and other suitable locations.

Once you find one, approach it and use the following controls:

The mounting key can be customized through the mod settings.

You can also adjust the bicycle's speed to suit your preferred gameplay experience.

Stamina and Injuries

Cycling at a normal pace consumes no stamina, similarly to walking.

Holding SHIFT increases speed but consumes stamina at the same rate as running.

Physical condition matters too. Leg and foot injuries affect riding, while a broken leg or foot completely prevents pedaling.

Bicycle Upgrades and Customization

The mod includes a parts system that allows you to improve your bicycle with additional equipment.

Available components include:

• Replaceable wheels.
• Attachments and containers.
• Bicycle lights.
• Other compatible accessories.

How to Install or Remove Parts

1. Put the required components in your main character inventory, not inside a backpack.
2. Place the bicycle on the ground.
3. Stand near it.
4. Right-click the bicycle.
5. Select Upgrade.
6. Choose the part you want to install or remove.

Street Wheels vs. Offroad Wheels

If a road tire goes flat, it can be repaired using a Rubber Hose and Tire Pump through the appropriate crafting recipe.

Sidecars and Cargo Transportation

One of the most useful additions is the ability to attach a sidecar to your bicycle.

Sidecars can be found in locations similar to regular bicycles, including garages and storage units.

They provide an additional way to transport:

• Collected loot.
• Survival supplies.
• Live animals.

However, cargo storage has an important limitation.

All bicycle-mounted containers share a combined capacity limit of 50 weight units, regardless of how much space individual containers appear to have.

This restriction comes from the game's underlying inventory system.

Immersive Mode and Special Interactions

The optional Immersive Mode changes riding performance depending on the terrain.

When enabled, bicycles move slightly slower on surfaces such as:

• Grass.
• Gravel.
• Sand.
• Dirt.

This makes road selection more important during longer journeys.

Bicycles also support special interactions. For example, you can right-click a bicycle near a fence and select Throw Bicycle to move it to the other side.

To place a bicycle directly into your inventory, enable Allow Transfer to Inventory in the mod options.

Compatibility and Known Issues

For Build 41, use the separate Bicycle version, which also supports multiplayer.

Troubleshooting

Upgrade menu missing or wheels cannot be attached

Some weapon modifications, including Gael's Gun Store, may interfere with bicycle upgrade actions.

If you experience unexpected conflicts, try placing Bicycle Mod at the top of your mod list.

Bicycle animations stop working

A vanilla game issue can invalidate custom animations, making the character appear to hold the bicycle without moving. Restarting the game may restore normal behavior.

Why are bicycles weightless?

This is an intentional workaround for engine limitations. Giving the bicycle normal item weight could cause excessive encumbrance while riding.

Planned Features

The developer intends to expand the riding system with additional animations, including turning, braking, falling and wheelies.

Bicycle tricks are also planned, but these features are not yet included.
