Better Sorting

Better Sorting improves inventory organization in Project Zomboid by replacing generic item categories with more detailed, meaningful labels.

Instead of browsing through large groups of unrelated objects, players can quickly identify clothing, weapons, food, crafting supplies and other equipment by their actual purpose.

The modification also adjusts certain item names and includes support for items introduced by other Workshop addons.

Compatible with Build 41, Build 42 and multiplayer. It can safely be added to or removed from existing saves.

Better Inventory Categories

The default inventory system sometimes assigns broad descriptions to items, making large collections harder to navigate.

Better Sorting introduces more specific categories without changing the underlying purpose of those objects.

Support for Other Mods

The sorting overhaul is not limited to vanilla items.

Over 200 Build 41 Workshop modifications are supported, with additional compatibility for Build 42 addons being introduced progressively.

This allows many items from supported third-party mods to receive meaningful categories alongside the base game's equipment.

Support for a particular Build 41 addon does not automatically guarantee that its Build 42 version has been integrated.

Languages and Translations

Build 42 includes machine translations for its currently supported languages.

Build 41 also supports multiple localizations, including Russian, Ukrainian, German, French, Spanish, Italian, Korean, Polish, Turkish, Czech, Thai, Brazilian Portuguese and Chinese.

Community contributors can submit improved translations through the project's GitHub repository.

Installation and Compatibility

The modification focuses on item categorization and does not require a separate gameplay system.

The Build 42 implementation no longer uses Item Tweaker API, unlike the earlier version.

Better Sorting is a straightforward quality-of-life improvement for survivors who want cleaner inventory lists and more useful item descriptions. It makes managing large collections considerably more convenient without adding unnecessary gameplay complexity.
