LG Extended Plumbing expands the water supply system in Project Zomboid Build 42.20+. Connect rain collectors to an entire building, install pipes between structures, supply water to basements and upper floors, and use generators to pump water upward. Combine water storage, reserve barrels and alternative liquids like beer, wine and milk. Supports multiplayer and existing saves.

LG Extended Plumbing is a plumbing and water management mod for Project Zomboid Build 42 that significantly expands the standard water supply system. Instead of connecting a sink only to a rain collector located directly above it, players can create a shared plumbing network that distributes water throughout buildings, across multiple floors, and even between separate structures.
The modification introduces extended rain collector connections, water distribution pipes, generator-powered pumping, shared storage capacity, and support for transporting liquids other than water.
It is particularly useful for survivors building large bases, underground shelters, workshops, or self-sufficient settlements after the municipal water supply shuts down.
Extended Plumbing for Entire Buildings
In vanilla Project Zomboid, a sink normally connects to a rain collector within a limited 3x3 area directly above it.
LG Extended Plumbing removes this restriction by allowing a connected barrel to supply multiple plumbing fixtures throughout a building.
Main features include:
- Building-wide water supply: Connect rain collectors to fixtures throughout the same building.
- Multiple connected barrels: Combine their stored liquids into one supply.
- Multi-floor plumbing: Supply water to floors below the connected collector, including supported basements.
- Generator-powered pumping: Supply water to upper floors when the collector's tile is powered by a generator.
- External pipe networks: Extend plumbing to separate buildings and outdoor fixtures.
- Shared water storage: Connected collectors drain together and continue collecting rain.
For example, twelve rain collectors containing 400 liters each can provide a combined supply of 4,800 liters to a connected kitchen sink.
How to Connect Rain Collectors
Connecting a rain collector is straightforward.
- Place a rain collector on a suitable roof, near an exterior wall, or inside a building.
- Carry a pipe wrench.
- Right-click the rain collector.
- Select Plumb into house supply.
- Connect the sink or other supported fixture using the normal Project Zomboid plumbing interaction.
Connect the barrel first, then the fixture.
The system follows two important rules.
Water Flows Downward Naturally
A connected barrel supplies its own level and every floor below it.
A rain collector installed on the roof can therefore supply the building beneath it, including supported basement levels.
Generators Allow Water to Flow Upward
To supply floors above the rain collector, its own tile must receive power from a generator.
This enables upward water distribution throughout the connected building.
Important: Municipal electrical power does not provide this pumping effect. The generator must power the barrel's actual tile.
If your building has no accessible roof, you can construct an upper floor and install the rain collector there.
Water Pipes Between Buildings
LG Extended Plumbing introduces an expanded pipe system for connecting separate areas.
Players can construct supply routes between houses, sheds, workshops, and outdoor water fixtures.
Pipe system features:
- Connect different buildings to the same water network.
- Supply outdoor sinks and other compatible fixtures.
- Use one iron pipe per tile of horizontal piping.
- Install vertical pipes along walls to connect different floors.
- Connect rain collectors and fixtures directly to pipe sections.
To inspect the network, right-click a connected barrel and select Show piped area.
Vertical pipe sections climb one floor at a time.
However, pipes do not change the rules of water pressure: water flows downward naturally, while upward distribution requires generator-powered pumping.
Shared Water Storage and Reserve Barrels
Connected rain collectors contribute to a common liquid supply.
Their contents are combined, and the connected barrels are drained together as water is consumed.
All connected rain collectors continue collecting rain normally.
Players can also designate a barrel as a reserve, preserving its contents until the other available supply has been used.
This is useful for keeping emergency drinking water available during periods without rainfall.
Supply Beer, Wine, Milk and Other Liquids
LG Extended Plumbing is not limited to water.
The modification supports plumbing compatible fixtures with several other liquids.
Supported examples include:
- Whiskey
- Beer
- Wine
- Milk
- Juice
To select an alternative liquid, right-click a fixture and choose Plumbed liquid.
Each barrel belongs to the supply network corresponding to the liquid it contains.
Different liquids remain separated, preventing a kitchen water tap from accidentally sharing the same supply as a bar fixture connected to whiskey.
Water Dispensers and Clean Drinking Water
The mod also expands the functionality of office water coolers.
Unlike ordinary sinks, connected water dispensers can be automatically refilled from the rain collector network.
An important advantage is that connected water coolers provide clean water even when the source barrels contain tainted water.
This creates an additional way to organize drinking water supplies inside a survivor base.
Compatibility with Other Plumbing Mods
LG Extended Plumbing is designed to work with vanilla rain collectors and many modded liquid containers.
Known compatibility information:
- Useful Barrels: Compatible. Barrels join the appropriate liquid network.
- PlumbingFixed: Compatible starting with version
2.2.3. - Immersive Water Shutoff: Compatible.
- LG Connect To Water Supply: Compatible. Fixtures can use municipal water until it shuts off, then switch to barrel supplies.
- LG Extended Electricity: Compatible with its generator and barrel behavior.
- Water Pipes: Not compatible when both systems control the same fixture. Different fixtures can use separate systems.
The mod automatically checks whether containers support liquids, so many additional barrels and tanks from other mods can work without dedicated compatibility patches.
However, modifications that independently change fixture plumbing may cause conflicts.
Supported Buildings and Limitations
The plumbing system works with mapped buildings, bunkers, supported basements, and player-built structures that are properly enclosed and roofed.
Known limitations:
- Player-dug basements without a valid room record cannot be supplied below ground.
- Wall showers, deluxe baths, dishwashers, and chemical toilets are not recognized as standard water fixtures by vanilla Project Zomboid.
- These unsupported objects cannot be connected through the mod's normal plumbing system.
The modification also includes Sandbox settings for controlling the search range of outdoor fixtures and enabling diagnostic logging.
Safe Installation and Removal
LG Extended Plumbing supports Project Zomboid Build 42.20 and newer compatible Build 42 versions.
It works in singleplayer, hosted multiplayer, and dedicated servers.
The mod can be added to existing saves. Previously connected rain collectors are automatically incorporated into the expanded system when the world loads.
However, removing the modification requires preparation.
The mod creates hidden water storage objects to support extended plumbing connections. Removing it without cleanup can leave connected fixtures permanently dry.
How to Remove LG Extended Plumbing Safely
Method 1 - Debug Menu
- Launch Project Zomboid with the
-debugparameter. - Right-click in the game world.
- Open LG Extended Plumbing through the debug menu.
- Select Uninstall: put every tap back.
- Follow the cleanup information displayed by the mod.
On multiplayer servers, this action is restricted to administrators.
Method 2 - Sandbox Settings
- Disable Enable extended plumbing in the Sandbox settings.
- Visit the areas of your base so they are loaded and processed.
- Allow the cleanup to finish.
- Remove the mod afterward.
If the modification has already been removed and your sinks no longer work, reinstall it and perform one of these cleanup procedures.
Compatibility Summary
- Game version: Project Zomboid Build 42.20+
- Singleplayer: Supported.
- Multiplayer: Hosted and dedicated servers supported.
- Existing saves: Supported.
- Vanilla rain collectors: Supported.
- Modded barrels and tanks: Many are supported through automatic liquid-container detection.
- Removal: Requires cleanup to restore normal plumbing behavior.
LG Extended Plumbing makes water infrastructure a more flexible part of survival, allowing players to build interconnected supply networks instead of relying on individual rain collectors positioned directly above every sink.
