Research Commission - Trade Research for Silver in RimWorld

Research Commission gives your scientists paid work and lets your colony purchase knowledge from other factions. Complete commissioned projects for silver, or spend money to acquire research.

Supports RimWorld 1.6 and 1.7, with two alternative ways to handle transactions.

Extended mode

The default mode brings research trading into a dedicated terminal. Right-click a comms console and select View research commissions to browse assignments, buy research and transfer results.

Uploads and downloads take about 30 seconds, without requiring a colonist to remain at the console. Payments use silver within orbital trade beacon range.

Tribal factions can participate too, although their transactions include a 10% transit fee. An optional shortcut adds the commission terminal to the bottom menu bar.

Classic mode

For a more hands-on approach, the optional Classic mode uses faction quests and physical visits.

• Research for silver: accept an assignment and work on it through the research window’s Commissions tab. Inspectors arrive within half a day of completion, stay for two hours and leave payment afterward. Keep them safe during the visit.
• Silver for research: accept a faction’s offer, take the payment to its settlement by caravan and receive the research when you hand over the silver.

Optional settings let you request research services from non-hostile factions through the comms console. You can also bypass inspections and caravan deliveries for immediate transactions.

Commissioned projects and research progress

Assignments include both generated fictional projects and technologies from the research tree.

For a commission matching a technology:

• If you already know it, the assignment starts at 80% progress.
• If you have not researched it, completing the commission advances the matching technology by 80%.

Anomaly technologies, technologies requiring techprints and technologies without a normal unlock method do not appear in commissions.
