Barricade The Door adds a new way to protect your base in Project Zomboid by barricading doors with chairs and stools. Lock entrances, create physical obstacles and increase door durability up to 10 times through customizable Sandbox settings. Slow down zombies and other characters using ordinary furniture, then remove your barricade whenever you need to.

Barricade The Door is a survival and base defense mod for Project Zomboid that allows players to reinforce doors using ordinary chairs and stools. Instead of relying exclusively on wooden planks or other traditional barricading methods, survivors can use furniture to block entrances, lock doors, and make them significantly harder to destroy.

The modification introduces a simple but effective defensive mechanic: place a chair against a door to create a physical obstacle while increasing the door's durability.

With customizable health multipliers of up to 10 times the normal door health, Barricade The Door gives survivors additional ways to protect their shelters from zombies and unwanted visitors.

Barricade Doors with Chairs

The main feature of Barricade The Door is the ability to turn ordinary furniture into defensive equipment.

A supported chair can be placed against a door, automatically creating a barricade that prevents normal passage and makes the entrance more resistant to damage.

Main features include:

  • Chair barricades: Use ordinary chairs and stools to reinforce doors.
  • Automatic door locking: Barricaded doors become locked.
  • Increased durability: Door health can be multiplied through Sandbox settings.
  • Physical collision: A chair blocks the doorway and obstructs movement.
  • Zombie resistance: Barricades slow down zombies attempting to enter.
  • Player obstruction: Other characters must deal with the blocked entrance.
  • Reusable furniture: Removing a barricade returns the chair to your inventory.

The mechanic provides an additional defensive option without requiring specially crafted furniture.

How to Barricade a Door

Barricade The Door uses a straightforward interaction system.

To install a barricade:

  1. Find a supported chair or stool.
  2. Pick up the furniture.
  3. Approach the door you want to reinforce.
  4. Right-click the door to open its interaction menu.
  5. Select Lock with Chair.

The chair will be placed against the door, creating a physical barricade.

The affected door becomes locked and receives the configured durability multiplier.

How to Remove a Chair Barricade

Barricades are not permanent and can be removed when they are no longer needed.

Removal steps:

  1. Approach the barricaded door.
  2. Right-click it.
  3. Select Remove Chair Barricade.

The barricade is removed, and the chair is returned to your character's inventory.

This makes it possible to change defensive positions or move furniture to another entrance.

Supported Chairs and Furniture

Barricade The Door supports a wide variety of single-seat furniture found throughout Project Zomboid.

Supported furniture includes:

  • Wooden chairs.
  • Plastic chairs.
  • Folding chairs.
  • Office chairs.
  • Beach chairs.
  • Rattan chairs.
  • Decorative and fancy chairs.
  • Stools.
  • Most other single-seater chairs.

This allows survivors to create barricades using furniture commonly found in houses, offices, restaurants, and other buildings.

Unsupported Furniture

Larger furniture is not supported by the current system.

Unsupported examples include:

  • Sofas and couches.
  • Armchairs.
  • Comfortable lounge chairs.
  • Benches.
  • Other multi-seat furniture.

The modification is designed primarily around individual chairs and stools.

Support for additional furniture types is planned for future development.

Stronger Doors with Customizable Health

One of the most important features of Barricade The Door is its configurable door durability system.

When a chair barricade is installed, the affected door receives a health multiplier selected in the Sandbox settings.

Available multipliers:

Setting Door Health
x1 Normal durability
x3 3 times normal health
x5 5 times normal health
x10 10 times normal health

For example, selecting x10 makes a barricaded door ten times as durable as its normal version.

This allows players to customize how effective chair barricades should be.

A lower multiplier keeps the mechanic relatively modest, while higher values provide significantly stronger defensive positions.

Important: Increased durability does not make the door indestructible.

Zombies can still approach and attack a barricaded entrance.

Physical Obstacles Against Zombies and Players

Barricade The Door does more than simply increase door health.

The chair creates a physical collision obstacle that blocks the doorway.

This affects how entrances can be used:

  • Zombies are slowed down when trying to break through.
  • The door remains a valid target for zombie attacks.
  • Other players encounter a physical barrier.
  • Some NPCs may also be prevented from opening the locked door.

Compatibility with NPC modifications has not been fully tested, so behavior may vary between different NPC systems.

The barricade is intended to delay intruders rather than make your shelter completely safe.

Visual Appearance and Known Limitations

Although Barricade The Door supports many different types of chairs, all installed barricades currently use the appearance of the standard green wooden chair.

This is a limitation of the game's rendering and furniture system.

Therefore, a plastic, office, or folding chair may visually appear as the same green wooden chair when used as a barricade.

Other limitations include:

  • Certain interior doors that cannot normally be locked may not support chair barricades.
  • Zombies can still path toward and attack barricaded doors.
  • Interactions with NPC mods have not been extensively tested.
  • Multi-seat furniture cannot currently be used for barricading.

These restrictions are worth considering when designing your base defenses.

Base Defense and Survival Uses

Barricade The Door can be useful in many survival situations.

Possible applications include:

  • Reinforcing entrances to a temporary shelter.
  • Blocking doors inside abandoned houses.
  • Creating additional protection for sleeping areas.
  • Securing storage rooms and other important spaces.
  • Slowing zombies while preparing an escape route.
  • Protecting entrances without permanently sacrificing furniture.

Since chairs can be recovered after removing the barricade, the system is particularly convenient for temporary defensive positions.

Compatibility and Gameplay

Barricade The Door expands Project Zomboid's existing door and furniture interactions.

The modification is an updated and modified version of the earlier ChairBarricade project.

Key gameplay characteristics:

  • Uses existing chairs and stools.
  • Adds a dedicated door barricading interaction.
  • Locks doors while barricaded.
  • Provides configurable door durability multipliers.
  • Creates a physical obstacle at the entrance.
  • Allows furniture to be recovered after removal.

Barricade The Door is a useful addition for survivors who want more flexible base defenses and a practical way to turn ordinary household furniture into emergency protection against the undead.
