Vanilla Races Expanded - Fungoids adds a rare archite-dependent xenotype inspired by infection horror. Fungoids begin capable of rational thought, but gradually lose mental sharpness while becoming physically stronger.
Their background traces them to a military project intended to fight insectoids.
Requires Biotech. This is a gene-based xenotype mod, not a Humanoid Alien Races version.
Infection and transformation
A new Ship Part Crash event brings a fungoid vessel and its associated threat.
Melee attacks from fungoids can apply a xenotype infection. Leaving it untreated allows an infected colonist to become a fungoid.
During conversion, the previous xenotype’s genes become endogenes, allowing some earlier attributes to remain. A transformed hussar, for example, can retain aspects of their former xenotype.
Genes beyond fungoids
The mod adds genes including Mind Coalescence, Gene Infector and Fungal Crest. Individual genes appear in genepacks and can be applied to other pawns.
Gene Infector is not restricted to spreading fungoid genes. Installed on another xenotype, it can transform infected victims into the xenotype of the attacker.
A changing colonist
Fungoids are not simply mindless zombies. Their progression trades mental capabilities for increasing physical strength, creating a different kind of long-term challenge for the colony.
Compatibility and saves
Can be added to an existing save. Safe removal is not assured.
Mad Skills overrides the mod’s skill-loss patches, which can interfere with the intended deterioration mechanics.
Combat Extended compatibility is handled by the CE team.
