Try Before You Wear adds a fitting room for experimenting with clothes your survivor owns or can reach. Preview individual garments or complete outfits without transferring or equipping anything.
Press Wear This Look when ready. The mod checks item accessibility, then uses normal transfer and clothing actions.
Requires NeatUI Framework and Project Zomboid Build 42.20 or newer.
Open your wardrobe
Right-click a nearby wardrobe, dresser, clothing rack, locker or similar container and select Try Before You Wear.
Alternatively, press Alt + I, change the binding or enable the option to show the action in world context menus.
Browse your inventory and nearby reachable containers, search by name, filter by body area or hide currently equipped clothes.
Preview appearance and performance
Rotate and zoom the live 3D survivor preview, or use an isometric view with light and dark studio backgrounds.
Compare:
- Bite and scratch protection.
- Insulation and wind resistance.
- Exposed body areas.
- Worn weight and movement or combat penalties.
- Expected outdoor comfort in current weather, including how walking changes it.
Choose wearing styles such as rolled sleeves and raised hoods. Different styles of the same garment are grouped together, including chained styles from supported modded clothing.
Save and apply outfits
Outfits reference real garments rather than creating copies. Missing pieces produce a partial preview instead of blocking the outfit.
Save, rename, organize into folders or delete outfits separately for each character. Ignore Bags and Ignore Belts preserve those equipment choices when applying a look.
Strip All clears only the preview. Back to the Closet stores removed clothing in a selected nearby container.
Controls and integrations
Left-click to try on or remove a garment. Right-click selects its style or requests transfer; middle-click takes it directly. Gamepads and Steam Deck navigation are supported.
Optional TTRP Poses integration adds preview poses. Listed compatibility includes NeatUI Equipment, CleanUI, Red Days, Lifestyle: Hobbies, Female Idle Stance, Spongie’s Character Customisation and Alice’s Weapon Sling.
Most clothing mods using standard body locations are supported.
Saves and multiplayer
Can be added to an existing save. The author tested it with over 200 mods, although individual combinations can differ.
Multiplayer has received less testing than single-player, and feedback is welcome.
