True Crawling - Prone Movement, Hiding and Shooting for Project Zomboid

True Crawling adds prone movement, concealed hiding spots and firearm aiming from lying and kneeling positions. Crawl through dangerous areas, rest on the ground or slip beneath cover when zombies have not spotted you.

Controls and movement

Lie down or get up using K, the context menu, or by holding C for half a second. The dedicated key can be changed in mod options.

While prone:

• Move with the normal movement keys.
• Use Shift or Alt to crawl faster at a higher stamina cost.
• Tap C to rise into a crouch.
• Press Shift + a short tap of C for a fast emergency get-up with a heavy stamina cost.

Lying still restores stamina similarly to sitting. Crawling consumes stamina, with carried weight and faster movement affecting the cost.

Shooting from the ground

Aim, turn and shoot with rifles and handguns in prone poses, including vertical mouse aiming, recoil and dry-fire animations. You cannot move while the firearm is raised.

Melee attacks and reloading are unavailable while prone. Stand up before using them.

An optional sandbox setting also adds kneeling aim: aiming a firearm while crouched lowers the character onto one knee.

Hiding and injuries

Hide beneath parked vehicles or beds to avoid zombies that did not see you enter. Zombies already chasing you remain aware of the hiding place and gather around it for a configurable period, 40 seconds by default.

Standing up is blocked while beneath cover.

Fractures affecting both legs can force the character prone until healing. A separate sandbox option allows a splint to restore the ability to stand.

Settings and compatibility

The True Crawling sandbox page controls hiding, movement speed, stamina costs, injury behavior, zombie memory and transition speed. It also includes kneeling aim and landing behavior after a fall.

Context-menu actions unsuitable for prone movement, such as building, fishing, sitting and sleeping, are hidden while lying down.

Requires Build 42.20 or newer. Single-player only, with no dependencies.

Do not combine it with another prone mod, including Lethal Stealth or True Crawl.
