DMS2 - Military Mechs, Lost Facilities and Heavy Industry for RimWorld

DMS2 is the RimWorld 1.7 edition of The Dead Man’s Switch, rebuilding its military-industrial content around 1990s cyberpunk themes. It combines heavy weapons, customizable war machines, automated production and bionics with new factions, exploration sites and sealed technologies.

Colonization forces and their forgotten predecessors

The Last Command scenario begins as a colonial vanguard awakens from cryosleep while its main fleet reaches orbit. New storyteller Operator Greysia brings fleet contracts, supply runs and security alerts.

The Colonization Forces are a military meritocracy led by an AI Overlord. Their predecessors survive as the Colonization Legacies, automatroid remnants still defending abandoned installations.

Explore relay stations, drone airfields, missile sites, repair depots and command nodes. Freight elevators, keycards and hackable consoles lead into underground vaults, archives and command facilities. Some contain dormant mechs that a mechanitor can hack and claim.

Mechs, drones and military equipment

The mod includes more than 40 types of war machines, automatroids and drones, alongside firearms, launchers, melee weapons, mech-mounted guns, turrets and air defenses.

Highlights include:

  • Bullhound and Gravekeeper garrison mechs.
  • The Lanius drone platform and FPV drone hive.
  • A central command core capable of controlling a combined brigade without a mechanitor.
  • Uca maintenance drones and Erima farming drones.
  • The Frogman, an artificial military organism grown from a directed embryo.

Supported mechs equip weapons through the right-click menu. Check their information cards for compatibility. Colonists need an exoskeleton suit to use mech weapons.

Industry, bionics and Occultech

A separate research tree progresses through artificial muscle, neural prosthetics, heavy automatroids and advanced weapons. Automated production uses feed hoppers, with additional infrastructure including fracturing rigs, blast scanners, infrasonic emitters and zero-point reactors.

Bionic suits, heavy variants and powered exoskeletons offer relatively inexpensive augmentation, balanced by rejection and phantom-limb effects.

To uncover Occultech, research qubit decryption and recover glyphs from newly revealed sites. A complete set locates a buried stele. Bring it home and place a Decoder directly against it. Data caches in remnant installations can also reveal projects.

Requirements and DLC integrations

RimWorld 1.7 only. Requires Harmony, Fortified Feature Framework and Biotech.

Optional DLC content loads automatically:

  • Royalty: military ranks from Reservist to Brigadier, officer training and permits for artillery, supplies, reinforcements and aerodrone strikes.
  • Ideology: the Chain of Command meme, military and synthetic-life precepts, plus a style pack.

Combat Extended compatibility and patches for several content mods are listed, including VRE Android, VFE Pirates, AncientCorps, Ancient Urban Ruins, Ratkin and Monolyn.

Choosing the correct edition

Do not enable DMS2 alongside the original mod: they share a package ID. Unsubscribe from the old edition when moving to RimWorld 1.7.

For RimWorld 1.6 or earlier, use the original The Dead Man’s Switch, frozen at version 1.8.27.
