Spongie's Character Customisation - Expanded Character Customization
Spongie's Character Customisation is a character appearance framework for Project Zomboid Build 42.20, adding facial details, dynamic muscles, body hair growth and additional customization options.
The framework also allows other mods and multiplayer servers to introduce new appearance features.
Included Modules
- Base Mod - Core framework. Does not add customization options by itself.
- Vanilla Faces Pack - 4 male and 4 female faces for the default body textures.
- Details Pack - Freckles, moles, scars, burns and missing eyes.
- Details Pack HD Textures - 512x512 textures for the Details Pack.
Missing eyes also affect the character's vision cone.
Important: Vanilla Faces Pack is incompatible with body retextures. The HD Details Pack should not be used with 256x256 textures.
Main Features
- Custom Faces - Additional facial appearances compatible with different skin tones.
- Facial Details - Freckles, scars, burns, moles and missing eyes.
- Dynamic Muscles - Visible muscle definition increases at Strength levels 6 and 9.
- Body Hair Growth - Body hair, head stubble and beard stubble grow over time and can be shaved.
- In-Game Customization - Optional appearance editing through the character information panel.
- Existing Saves - Previously created characters can select new appearance options after installing the mod.
The new body hair system replaces vanilla chest hair. It does not otherwise change normal hair or beard growth.
Sandbox Settings
Server administrators can configure:
- Appearance changes during gameplay.
- Muscle visibility and body hair growth.
- Individual player preferences for these features.
- Vision penalties caused by missing eyes.
- Restricted customization options.
Admins can also spawn an Appearance Changing Spiffo to grant appearance editing or an Appearance Unlocking Bear to unlock restricted options for players holding these items.
Compatibility
Game version: Project Zomboid Build 42.20 Stable.
Multiplayer: Tested and supported.
Fully supported body modifications:
- Spongie's Character Retexture.
- Tomb's Player Body Overhaul.
Additional compatibility notes:
- Dynamic Body may work with dynamic muscles disabled.
- Mods replacing stubble or chest hair systems are incompatible.
- Some clothing mods may cause transparency problems.
- Split-screen and controller input are not supported.
- Existing saves are supported.
Installation and Troubleshooting
- Load this mod after Ellie's Tattoo Parlor.
- Match the maximum texture size setting to your character retexture. Vanilla textures use 256x256.
- Restart the game after enabling compatible body retextures.
- In multiplayer, all players must enable the mod and relevant retextures in the main menu.
- If a multiplayer error reports that a file does not exist, try disabling Lua checksum verification.
- If world creation crashes, resubscribe to the mod. If necessary, start the save without it and add it afterwards.
- If too many traits break the character information screen, Bigger Character Avatars may help.
Spongie's Character Customisation provides a flexible foundation for creating more distinctive survivors without changing Project Zomboid's core survival mechanics.
