Real Water overhauls water physics in Project Zomboid, adding swimming, drowning, waves, underwater visibility and floating objects. Fish swim beneath the surface, corpses drift with the waves, and vehicles can sink in deep water. Characters become visibly wet, while zombies can fall into pools and canals. Most features are configurable. Safe to add to existing saves; multiplayer support is untested.
Real Water - Realistic Water Physics for Project Zomboid
Real Water transforms water in Project Zomboid by introducing swimming, drowning, dynamic waves and physics-based interactions with characters, vehicles and objects.
The mod is designed to be performance-friendly, with most features configurable through mod or sandbox settings.
Main Features
- Swimming - Characters can swim, consuming endurance. Lower endurance reduces swimming speed.
- Dynamic Water - Swimming, wading, rain and wind generate waves on the surface.
- Drowning - Exhausted swimmers begin sinking. After 20 seconds underwater, they start losing health.
- Underwater Visibility - Objects beneath the surface remain visible through the water.
- Swimming Fish - Fish move beneath the water's surface.
- Wet Characters - Wet characters appear darker, with water dripping from their bodies.
- Floating Corpses - Dead bodies float and move with the waves.
- Zombie Water Interactions - Zombies following survivors into pools or falling from piers and canal walls tumble into the water and die.
- Item Physics - Objects can float, become soaked or sink to the bottom.
Vehicle Water Physics
Vehicles interact with water depth:
- Cars slow down when driving through water.
- Deep water causes vehicles to sink.
- Water covering the front of a vehicle stalls its engine.
- Remaining submerged for 5 seconds permanently destroys the vehicle.
Note: Vehicle water physics are available in singleplayer only.
Compatibility
Real Water supports integration with:
- Aquatsar Yacht Club
- Build Your Own Kayak
Settings and Installation
Most features can be enabled or disabled individually through the mod settings or sandbox options.
- Performance: Designed to be lightweight.
- Existing saves: Safe to add during an ongoing game.
- Multiplayer: Not tested.
- Configuration: Most mechanics are optional.
Real Water adds new interactions and environmental effects, making rivers, lakes, pools and other bodies of water more dynamic and dangerous.
