MaD's Awesome Zombie Loot - Expanded Zombie Loot for Project Zomboid

MaD's Awesome Zombie Loot makes searching zombie corpses more rewarding in Project Zomboid Build 42.20 Stable.

Zombies can carry food, weapons, ammunition, tools, books, crafting materials and exceptionally rare treasures. Drops are intentionally uncommon to preserve survival balance.

This is an unofficial Build 42 port of the original Build 41 modification.

Main Features

  • Additional loot in zombie inventories.
  • Five categories of items with different rarity levels.
  • Profession-specific loot based on zombie outfits.
  • Chance to discover items inside bags.
  • Extremely rare and valuable apocalypse treasures.
  • Customizable drop rates and item conditions.
  • Support for vanilla and modded items.
  • Singleplayer, co-op and dedicated-server compatibility.

Loot Rarity

Level Possible Loot
LV1 Snacks, canned food, drinks and spices
LV2 Tape, glue, nails, screws and crafting materials
LV3 Seeds, magazines and profession books
LV4 Weapons, ammunition and ammunition boxes
LV5 Extremely rare apocalypse treasures

Higher-value rewards are designed to remain uncommon rather than becoming a reliable equipment source.

Profession-Specific Loot

Certain zombie outfits provide additional chances for themed items:

  • Firefighters - Axes and fire extinguishers.
  • Medical workers - First-aid supplies.
  • Police officers - Police-related equipment.
  • Construction workers - Tools and building materials.
  • Farmers - Seeds and farming supplies.

These drops are randomized and never guaranteed.

Sandbox Settings

Players and server administrators can configure:

  • Overall loot frequency.
  • Individual item categories.
  • Condition of generated equipment.
  • Items appearing inside bags.
  • Profession-specific loot chances.
  • Loose ammunition quantities.
  • Additional custom loot rolls.

Custom Loot Rules

The Extra Rolls system supports vanilla and modded items using their item IDs.

Example of global loot rules:

Base.BaseballBat:0.2;Base.Crowbar:0.1;Base.Axe:0.05

Rules can also target specific zombie outfits:

Fireman:Base.Axe:0.05;Police:Base.Nightstick:1

Chance values represent percentages. For example, 0.1 means a 0.1% chance.

Advanced rules support additional rolls, quantities and outfit restrictions. The maximum number of extra rolls is limited to 100 per rule.

Multiplayer and Compatibility

  • Game version: Project Zomboid Build 42.20 Stable.
  • Singleplayer: Supported.
  • Hosted co-op: Supported.
  • Dedicated servers: Supported.
  • Existing saves: Compatible.
  • Modded items: Supported through Extra Rolls.

In multiplayer, the server generates corpse loot once, preventing duplicate rolls from connected players.

Legacy integration with Brita's Weapons is retained, but compatibility is not guaranteed.

Do not enable this Build 42 port alongside the original Build 41 version.

Save Compatibility

The mod can be added to or removed from existing saves.

  • New loot is generated for future zombie deaths.
  • Previously existing corpses are not rerolled.
  • Removing the mod stops additional drops.
  • Already generated items remain in the world.

MaD's Awesome Zombie Loot makes corpse searching more interesting without turning every zombie into a guaranteed source of valuable supplies.
