Vanilla Fishing Expanded - Turn Nearby Waters into a Food Source

Vanilla Fishing Expanded gives rivers and coastlines a practical role in colony life. Catch fish for meals or trade, with different species available across biomes and catches divided into three size categories.

The mod adapts its behavior depending on whether Odyssey is installed.

Fishing without Odyssey

Designate a fishing zone through Architect → Zone, beside the growing-zone tool. Assign colonists capable of animal work to the Fishing job, and they will begin fishing within the designated area.

Fish can be used directly in cooking without butchering. Eating them raw causes the usual Ate raw food mood penalty.

Match the targeted fish size to your colonists’ abilities. Attempting catches far beyond their skill can lead to excessively long fishing sessions.

Integration with Odyssey

When Odyssey is enabled, the mod works through the DLC’s fishing system:

  • Adds its fish species to Odyssey’s catches.
  • Provides settings for adjusting fishing-system variables.
  • Introduces additional stats and expertise support for Vanilla Skills Expanded.
  • Supplies shared functionality for fishing content in other compatible mods.

Fishing zones require research when using Odyssey.

Biomes and compatibility

Compatibility is included for Advanced Biomes, Realistic Planets, Nature’s Pretty Sweet and Mallorn Forest.

Alpha Biomes receives additional support with 19 alien fish suited to its environments.

Existing saves

The mod can be added to an ongoing colony. Removing it during a playthrough is not recommended.
