Vanilla Weapons Expanded - Laser - Powerful Beams with a Risk of Overheating

Sustained fire and overheating
While a colonist stands still and fires, the weapon gradually increases its firing speed. At maximum speed, further shots can trigger a battery explosion, potentially setting the shooter on fire.
An orange glow around the weapon warns that it is time to interrupt firing and reposition.
Obtaining laser weapons
Most advanced models come from traders, world quests and defeated enemies, rather than ordinary crafting.
The Salvage laser weapon recipe uses advanced components and the colonist’s Intellectual skill to produce a random salvaged weapon. These versions are less accurate and more prone to overheating than their advanced counterparts.
With Royalty, friendly relations with the Empire can provide access to techprints used to craft advanced laser weapons.
Pirate forces also gain a late-game enemy type: the Mercenary Marine, equipped with power armor and a laser weapon.
Requirements and compatibility
Requires Vanilla Expanded Framework. The main Vanilla Weapons Expanded mod is optional.
- Combat Extended: compatibility is listed in the description.
- Run and Gun: supported, but firing while moving does not build the stationary firing-speed bonus.
- Vanilla Furniture Expanded - Security: laser beams pass through its energy shields, which are designed to stop physical projectiles.
The description supports adding and removing the mod during an existing playthrough. After installation, update your stockpile filters to include the new weapons.
