Vanilla Quests Expanded - The Generator is a RimWorld mod that introduces a new quest chain centered around ancient technology and an extremely powerful generator called the ARC. Players must investigate mysterious prototypes, explore distant locations, and uncover the work of an elusive inventor to develop an advanced power source capable of supplying an entire colony with electricity.
The mod adds 7 new quests, a progressive generator upgrade system, and several important decisions that influence the development of your colony's energy infrastructure.
ARC Generator - Advanced Reactor Chamber
The central feature of the mod is the ARC (Advanced Reactor Chamber), a powerful and upgradeable electricity generator.
Unlike ordinary power sources in RimWorld, the ARC requires considerable preparation, resources, and time to reach its full potential.
Main features include:
- Powerful energy generation: A fully developed ARC can produce enormous amounts of electricity, potentially enough to power an entire colony.
- Progressive upgrades: Improve the generator through a lengthy development process.
- Resource investment: Advanced upgrades require substantial materials and other resources.
- Specialized maintenance: Only colonists who have studied an ancient ARC can maintain a new reactor.
- Different development paths: Choose between nuclear and geothermal technology during the upgrade process.
Developing an ARC becomes a long-term colony project rather than a simple construction task.
Nuclear and Geothermal Upgrade Paths
At a certain stage of generator development, players must make an important choice between two upgrade directions:
- Nuclear power: Develop the ARC using nuclear technology.
- Geothermal power: Follow an alternative development path based on geothermal energy.
The selected direction represents a significant commitment, so players should consider their colony's needs before choosing.
Both paths are part of the broader generator upgrade system, which requires time, resources, and completion of additional objectives.
Seven New Quests and Ancient Ruins
Vanilla Quests Expanded - The Generator introduces 7 quests connected to the mysterious inventor and the development of ARC technology.
Players must travel across the world map, investigate ancient prototypes, and complete objectives to advance through the quest chain.
Important quest mechanics:
- Quests use a separate system independent of the storyteller.
- New quests activate when their conditions are fulfilled and an internal timer expires.
- Quest locations can appear anywhere on the world map, including far from your colony.
- The storyline involves unique characters who cannot be replaced if permanently lost.
The quest chain may also lead players toward discovering the resting place of the mysterious Inventor.
ARC Maintenance and Chemfuel Refueling
Advanced power generation requires proper reactor maintenance.
Only colonists who have studied an ancient ARC can maintain newly constructed ARC generators. If these characters die, the reactor will gradually deteriorate until another colonist studies an ancient ARC and gains the necessary knowledge.
There is also an important limitation involving chemfuel generators.
The Chemfuel ARC cannot be refueled directly through pipes from Vanilla Chemfuel Expanded.
Instead, players can place a tap near the generator, allowing colonists to refuel it automatically.
Existing Saves and Quest Management
Vanilla Quests Expanded - The Generator can be added to an existing RimWorld save.
After enabling the mod, the first quest should appear within 45 in-game days.
The new quests do not replace or interfere with the storyteller's normal quest selection because they operate through their own conditions and timers.
For testing and troubleshooting, the developer menu includes a View Quest Chains option.
This interface allows players to:
- View available quest chains.
- Manually trigger individual quests.
- Automatically complete quests.
- Check when subsequent quests are scheduled to activate.
Combat Extended: Compatibility has not been confirmed.
