Vanilla Backstories Expanded - Over 150 New Pawn Histories for RimWorld
Vanilla Backstories Expanded adds over 150 backstories, giving your colonists and the people they encounter more varied pasts. The collection includes childhood and adult histories for different faction types, including tribal and Imperial characters.
Many entries were inspired by community members’ real occupations and experiences, reimagined within the RimWorld universe.
Every survivor has a past
The selection ranges from everyday professions to unusual science-fiction origins:
- Pirate Chef, Industrial Gunsmith and Ship Salvager
- Fashion Designer, Translator and Research Scientist
- Corporate Spy, Bounty Hunter and Noir Detective
- Vatgrown Colonist, Cloned Heir and Child of the Anima Tree
The backstories were selected and balanced to fit the base game’s setting, adding variety to character generation and new ideas for roleplaying.
Compatibility and saves
The mod can be added to an existing save, where its backstories begin appearing on newly generated pawns.
It is intended to work alongside other backstory mods. Compatibility with Combat Extended is expected, rather than explicitly confirmed.
There are no individual backstory toggles. Removing a particular entry requires editing the mod’s XML files.
When reporting a typo or description issue, include the backstory’s name so the authors can locate it.
Authors: Oskar Potocki, Legodude17, Erdelf and Reann, with contributions from patrons and testers.
