Vanilla Backgrounds Expanded - Custom Menu and Loading Screens for RimWorld

Vanilla Backgrounds Expanded refreshes RimWorld’s main menu with artwork created by Oskar Potocki for the Vanilla Expanded series. The included 2K backgrounds bring different scenes from the RimWorld universe to your menu and, optionally, loading screens.

Choose what appears

Mod settings let you:

• Select which backgrounds are enabled.
• Turn background cycling on or off.
• Adjust the interval between background changes.
• Apply backgrounds to loading screens.

Keep a favourite image on display or rotate through your chosen collection.

Add your own backgrounds

For personal additions, open the settings and select Open Backgrounds Folder. Place your images or videos there, then restart the game to add them to the selection.

Animated backgrounds use WebM videos. GIF backgrounds are not supported.

Mod authors can also register backgrounds through BackgroundDefs, which appear automatically in the selection menu.

Compatibility and saves

RimThemes backgrounds are detected and added to the available list. Overriding RimThemes backgrounds is enabled by default and can be disabled.

BetterLoading overrides loading-screen backgrounds, so the Apply on game load setting has no effect with it enabled. Main-menu backgrounds still work.

The mod can be added during an existing playthrough.

Artwork usage

The included artwork may be used as personal desktop wallpaper and in YouTube videos and thumbnails. Reuploading or modifying the images requires permission.
