Vanilla Armour Expanded - Protection Across Every Technological Era

Vanilla Armour Expanded broadens RimWorld’s defensive equipment, giving colonists more choices between early tribal protection and advanced power armor. New research projects introduce equipment gradually, with artwork designed to match the base game.

Armor for different roles

  • Neolithic protection: wooden armor for early settlements.
  • Medieval equipment: chainmail and breastplates.
  • Industrial gear: bulletproof vests, ballistic goggles, balaclavas and ghillie suits.
  • Riot equipment: protective armor, helmets and shields.
  • Advanced protection: two additional marine armor variants, including one with an integrated shield that permits ranged combat.

New equipment can also appear on appropriately equipped enemies.

Ghillie suits have a concealment mechanic: wearers can lose their visible name labels and become unavailable for direct selection, making concealed raiders harder to identify.

Existing saves and Combat Extended

The description supports adding and removing the mod during an existing playthrough. After installation, update your stockpile filters to allow the new equipment.

Combat Extended compatibility is provided through a patch maintained within CE. The supplied description specifically references its GitHub version.

Equipment display limitations

Ballistic goggles may hide a pawn’s hair. The author suggests Show Hair with Hats as a workaround.

If a balaclava appears over a helmet, equip the balaclava first, then the helmet. Rendering order can affect how overlapping headgear appears.

Replaced limbs can also prevent boots or gloves from being worn because of how the base game handles their associated body parts.
