Replace Stuff - Upgrade Buildings Without Dismantling Your Base in RimWorld
Replace Stuff simplifies renovations by letting you replace building materials and upgrade supported structures in place. Keep rooms enclosed, preserve important settings and let colonists handle the preparation needed for construction.
This continuation maintains Uuugggg’s original mod for RimWorld 1.6. Its features extend beyond vanilla’s ability to place blueprints over walls.
Replace materials and upgrade buildings
Use Replace under Architect > Structure, or place a supported replacement over an existing building. Material changes also work on blueprints and unfinished frames.
Supported upgrades include doors to autodoors, beds to other beds, tables, coolers and fuelled stoves or tailoring benches to electric versions. Certain modded buildings, including RimFridges, are supported too.
During replacement:
- Walls keep rooms enclosed, helping freezers retain their temperature.
- Workbenches preserve their bills.
- Beds retain their assigned owners.
- Existing buildings remain in place until the upgrade is completed, though they generally cannot be used during the work.
Preserve settings after destruction
Automatically rebuilt structures can recover supported settings, including:
- Workbench bills.
- Cooler and heater temperatures.
- Plant selections in hydroponics and pots.
- Storage filters.
Build over rock and water
Blueprints placed over mountain rock create clearing work. Over water, they queue bridge construction where appropriate. You can also plan in unexplored areas, though invalid blueprints are cancelled when the terrain is revealed.
A bottom-right toggle disables automatic rock clearing. Be careful with valuable ore: builders may mine it themselves, potentially reducing yields compared with skilled miners.
Install cooling over existing walls
Over-wall coolers and vents sit on walls rather than replacing them. Double-width coolers support two-wall-thick freezers.
They require an actual wall. Mountain rock must first be smoothed into one.
Construction costs and saves
Replacement still requires work and materials. Unchanged materials are retained, while replaced materials return the normal deconstruction yield, usually 75%. Quality is rerolled and damage is repaired as with reconstruction. Construction failures can consume materials.
No new save is required. Before removing the mod, remove its over-wall coolers and vents and finish or cancel active replacement jobs.
