Most beginner tutorials cover basic controls and team building, but Genshin Impact hides dozens of advanced systems beneath its combat. This checklist reveals seven mechanics that experienced players use to maximize damage and efficiency, yet rarely appear in standard guides.
1. Soft Pity System The pity counter does not stay flat until the 90th pull. Starting from the 74th pull, the probability of receiving a 5-star character increases significantly with each subsequent wish, making pulls 74-80 much more valuable than earlier ones.
2. Internal Cooldown (ICD) Elemental application has built-in cooldowns. A single attack string cannot apply its element on every hit. For example, Diluc's three-swing combo only applies Pyro on the first and third strikes, which affects how you structure Vaporize rotations.
3. Dragonstrike Technique By jumping immediately after a normal attack and holding the attack button mid-air, you can cancel the recovery animation and trigger an instant plunge attack. This doubles DPS potential for claymore characters like Razor or Beidou.
4. Melt and Vaporize Multipliers These amplifying reactions have two different multipliers depending on the trigger order. Pyro triggering Melt deals 2.0x damage, while Cryo triggering Melt only deals 1.5x. The same principle applies to Vaporize with Hydro and Pyro.
5. Shield Snapshotting Shields like Zhongli's Jade Shield capture your character's stats at the moment of creation. If you build a shield with high HP buffs active, then swap to a damage-dealing character, the shield retains its original strength throughout its duration.
6. Transformative Reaction Scaling Reactions such as Swirl, Overloaded, and Electro-Charged do not scale with attack or critical damage. Their damage depends exclusively on character level, Elemental Mastery, and enemy resistance. Leveling reaction-focused characters to 90 yields disproportionate gains.
7. Plunge Attack Jump Cancel You can cancel the landing recovery of a plunge attack by immediately jumping or dashing. This allows rapid consecutive plunge attacks, a technique essential for Xiao mains and high-mobility builds.
Mastering these systems transforms average players into high-performing veterans. Each mechanic interacts with team composition and artifact choices in ways that standard builds often overlook.
