Viewpoint - Advanced Throwables
Real throwing for Viewpoint, in first and third person. In Viewpoint, grenades and molotovs used to drop right at your feet. This mod fixes that bug and swaps the old isometric throw for a physical one: objects fly where you're looking, bounce, roll and shatter.
Throwing
Throw where you look. The object leaves your hand along the crosshair, in both first and third person. Over-the-shoulder aiming is corrected for parallax, and Viewpoint's shoulder swap is supported. Holding Viewpoint's free look keeps your aim point where it was.
Hold for power. A quick tap is a short toss; a full hold sends it far. Three kinds of throw: - overhand: the standard throw; - underhand: hold Alt; - rolling: while crouched.
Physical flight. Gravity, bounces off walls and floors, rolling, stairs, furniture, trees, zombies, players and vehicles. Objects no longer fly through walls.
Windows behave properly: - an open or broken window lets the throw through; - closed glass stops it, unless the throw is hard enough to smash the pane; - barricades always block.
Explosions, fire and smoke
Vanilla effects. Pipe bombs, molotovs, aerosol bombs, smoke bombs and noise makers explode, burn and smoke exactly as they do in the regular game, including timer, sensor and remote versions. Molotovs still need a lighter.
3D effects: - explosions with a fireball, sparks, flying debris, a ring of dust and a smoke plume that drifts with the wind; - molotov fire bursts; - smoke grenades that fill the area (coloured ones keep their colour); - flashbangs that white out the screen of anyone who sees them.
Explosions and fires light up their surroundings. Everything is drawn inside Viewpoint, with no flat 2D sprites.
Fire and smoke you can see. From version 0.1.6 Viewpoint draws the game's flames itself, and this mod adds rising smoke above every fire plus dense volumetric smoke clouds over smoky tiles. That smoke genuinely hides whatever is standing in it.
Throw anything
Hold the throw key (G) with any item in hand: - bottles shatter; - cans clatter; - rocks land with a thud; - you can throw tools, weapons, even a bag with everything inside it (subject to a server weight limit).
The sound of an impact draws zombies over to investigate. Optional, conservative impact damage can be turned on.
Modded grenades and launchers
Grenades from other mods are picked up automatically, as long as they're built like vanilla throwables. A Lua API covers the rest.
Guns of Marz grenade launchers: the M79 and the M203 underbarrel. They fire real grenades out of the muzzle, just like a thrown one: - the grenade flies where the barrel points and drops with distance, so raise the launcher to reach further; - you can see the round in flight in first and third person; - it explodes on impact with the 3D effects; - the grenades use their real fuses.
Works together with Viewpoint True Ballistics.
Aiming help
While you prepare a throw, you can show a ring at the landing point or a faint arc. Modes: Off / Simple / Full, and the server can restrict the choice.
Multiplayer
Throws are server-authoritative and validated: item ownership, speed, release point and rate. Your throw still flies instantly on your screen, and other players see the same path.
Controls
| Action | Key |
|---|---|
| Throw a grenade or other throwable | hold Attack, release to throw |
| Throw anything else (tools, weapons, bags) | hold G |
| Underhand throw | hold Left Alt |
| Rolling throw | crouch |
| Cancel | X |
Every key can be rebound in Settings → Mods. There you can also turn off "Attack button throws grenades" to throw grenades with G as well.
As in vanilla, pipe bombs go off when they land (aerosol and smoke bombs have timers).
Server options
Sandbox page "Viewpoint Throwables": - throw strength and speeds, charge time; - underhand and rolling throws, momentum; - impact damage (and player damage with PVP on); - zombie distraction; - throwing any item, and the weight limit; - bouncing and window breaking; - server validation, aiming help limit, cooldown between throws; - flashbang blinding and range; - incendiary fire damage; - debug.
Requirements
Load it after Viewpoint. On first launch, ZombieBuddy will ask you to approve this mod's Java file.
Servers don't need ZombieBuddy's Java part: all server logic is plain Lua.
