Vehicle Framework - Land, Sea and Air Vehicles for RimWorld Mods

Vehicle Framework provides the systems other mods use to add vehicles to RimWorld. It contains no vehicles on its own: install a compatible vehicle pack to put its features into use.

Land, sea and aerial vehicles share a configurable foundation, allowing mod authors to build different types of transport and combat vehicles.

Component-based damage

Vehicle health is divided between components, which can affect performance when damaged.

  • External components have physical hitboxes, allowing attacks from different directions to strike particular parts.
  • Internal components can be damaged when attacks penetrate a destroyed external component.
  • Occupants may also be injured by penetrating hits.

Pathfinding that accounts for size

Vehicles use independent, configurable pathfinding that considers their full footprint. Large vehicles must find routes with enough clearance instead of squeezing through single-cell gaps.

Customisation and vehicle weapons

A shared pattern and skin system lets compatible vehicles use paint schemes across different packs.

Vehicle turrets support flexible positioning and nested mounts, such as a machine gun attached to a rotating main turret. Available systems include recoil, overheating, alternating barrels and configurable projectile behaviour.

Aircraft and animation tools

Aerial vehicles have separate launch and landing protocols, with vehicle-specific animations and effects.

An in-game animation editor provides a preview and editable curves, helping authors tune movement without repeatedly restarting the game. Graphic overlays support elements such as rotating helicopter rotors.

Settings and compatibility

General and per-vehicle settings let players adjust supported mechanics without writing XML patches. Mod authors can expose additional settings from their own components.

The framework remains a work in progress, and conflicts with other mods are possible.

Bug reports and feedback are accepted through GitHub and Discord. Consult the compatibility tracker for reported issues.
