Immersive Snow — A Winter World That Reacts to You

Immersive Snow gives winter travel a visible aftermath. Survivors leave footprints, vehicles cut tracks through the snow, and clothing gradually turns white during snowfall. Warmth melts the accumulation, wet fabric becomes another concern, and breath hangs in the freezing air.

The mod requires Project Zomboid Build 42.20 or later and supports single-player and multiplayer, including dedicated servers.

Tracks across the landscape

Players, nearby zombies, and supported animals leave different prints in snowy ground. This includes Build 42 animals, Horse Mod horses, and Companion Dogs animals.

Repeated movement creates trodden paths. Injuries, corpses, and vehicles can leave blood drops, red footprints, bloody tire marks, and corpse-drag trails.

Tracks fade over time and disappear faster under heavy snowfall. Moving onto clear ground leaves a few temporary snowy prints or tire marks behind.

Snow on vehicles and equipment

Parked vehicles accumulate snow across their bodies, windows, roofs, and wheels. Warm weather and engine heat melt it, while driving above 40 km/h throws snow off in powder and clumps.

Windows can frost over. Use the vehicle’s context menu to scrape frost or brush away snow.

Outdoors, snow also settles on clothing, bags, held items, and zombies. Melting snow wets clothing, and walking through it wets footwear. Water-resistant equipment offers protection.

Before heading inside, use Shake the snow off to remove accumulation before it soaks in.

More winter detail

Cold-weather breath changes with breathing intensity, strong freezing winds push snow dust across the ground, and fires melt patches around them. Snow can also be cleared with a shovel.

Features can be toggled and adjusted through the Immersive Snow sandbox page and personal Options → Mods settings. A low-end mode is available for weaker graphics hardware.

Compatibility and existing saves

The mod supports many vehicle and clothing packs, including KI5 vehicles, PZK VLC, Spongie’s Clothing, and several other equipment collections. Support is broad but not universal; some vehicles may show flickering snow at certain angles.

Existing saves are supported, including vehicles already present in the world. Footprints and tire tracks are not stored in the save.

The mod can be removed without preventing the save or server from loading. For additional cleanup, the developer provides ISnow.cleanSave() for the debug Lua console before removal.

Immersive Snow does not create snowy weather. Ground snow still depends on the game’s weather conditions, so winter effects require suitable cold and snowfall.
